The spell checker offered to correctly spell rockstar as jockstrap

I am an "amateur" musician who only listens, primarily to other "amateur" musicians.

High quality recordings can be made on the simplest computer. I hope the ease of online music sharing makes the concept of rock-star* completely obsolete. Music is for everyone, both for its listening enjoyment and performance. I would rather hear bad experimental music then anything Metallica has to offer.

All my best recorded music can be found on Alonetone and myspace.

God is your true self, love her with your whole heart and soul. #56

God is your true self, love her with your whole heart and soul. Go ahead blaspheme, you know you want to! Where does this leave the poor atheist? At least a Christian has a small chance of coming to this realization.

the tomb is empty... show me the Body of Christ."

In Traditional Judaism forbids the drinking of blood. Because Blood is the substance that gives life. To drink blood meant to be equal to God.

Members of the Greek mystery and elusian mystery cults drank blood to become one with the Goddess. Such a practice was abhorrent to Jewish law.

Early Christians drank the Blood of Christ, claiming sameness and indivisibility with God, becoming sons and daughters of God, identical to Christ.

THOU ART GOD !

Remember Christs separate divinity (were all divine of origin) was not the predominate interpretation of Christianity until the 4th century.

Most people are unaware that essential Christianity is not fundamentalist, in fact it's very non-dualistic. In order to extract the deeper mystical significance of the Jesus myth is to restore it AS a myth. The Christianity that we inherited from st. Paul is Exoteric Christianity and it is an interpretation based on dualistic Aristotelian philosophy. Before Paul was esoteric Christianity.

Esoteric Christianity in a nutshell is this. Salvation is NOT bridging the gap between earthly humans and spiritual God with a blood sacrifice or Exoteric Christianity. Esoteric Christianity is realizing your own divine nature. Realizing this IS salvation, not achieving your place in the afterlife.

Jesus realized he was no separate from divine nature, Christian practice is to make the same realization Jesus made, that WE are God nature. There is no separation between matter and spirit.

"Show me the Body of Christ?"

Let's see your body ;)

I can swim along both streams, the Christian and the Buddhist. #88

The coming and going of the ego each moment is "reincarnation". To escape birth-death, accept what your life is right now. Even the coming and going of the ego is the proper function of the universe.

To enter the kingdom of heaven, crucify your false self and rise from the dead, and be born again as a son or daughter of God.

All traditions make the mistake of taking religious metaphors literally. Spiritual language is designed to reach through logic straight to the intuition. If you take words to literally you end up with Christians believing in a literal heaven and the Buddhists a literal re-birth.

The mask we have constructed does not live on after death. let it go, let it die each moment, don't block out the reality of your life as it is right now. Thats heaven, that's nirvana.

Religion vs Atheism #0075

Religion vs Atheism

Religious hypocrisy is not caused by religion. Religion does not MAKE you evil or violent. The reason religion is so destructive is because it is run by humans. Atheism in the guise of communist China killing Buddhists is no Different then Christians burning witches. The reason religious people cause so much violence is because they are human.

Humans are born ignorant, we need not blame anything else for our folly as a species.

Wisdom is the narrow road, and it doesn't come easy to us quasi-apes. It requires constant vigilance and hard work. It's harder then getting a masters degree or learning to play the guitar, or raising a family.

Human ignorance is exemplified by individuals with an unwavering single minded ideology. The ideology may or may not include a deity, or it may just be a philosophy. Ignorant people call this ideology "Faith" or "Truth", but it is neither.

Faith is a-religious and existed before any religion. Faith happens when we walk into the unknown with courage and profound acceptance of reality. If religion helps you to do that, help yourself to several. If rejecting religion helps, by all means reject away.

The sooner we un-encumber ourselves from the "truth" the sooner we can face the unknown with faith.

Origins of Easter

Q: Why did Buddha break up with Jesus?

A: Jesus could only "arise" every three days.

"Easter celebrations were festivals of spring honoring Eostre, the great mother goddess of the Saxons. This name was fashioned after the ancient word for spring, Eastre. The goddess Ostara was the Norse equivalent whose symbols were the hare and the egg.

In the Mediterranean region, there was a spring celebration centered around the vernal equinox (March 20 or 21) that honored Cybele, the Phrygian goddess of fertility. Cybele’s consort, Attis, was considered born of a virgin and was believed to have died and been resurrected three days later. Attis derived his mythology from even earlier gods, Osiris, Dionysus, and Orpheus, who also were supposed to have been born of a virgin and suffered death and resurrection as long as 500 years b.c.e. The death of Attis was commemorated on a Friday and the resurrection was celebrated three days later on Sunday.

There are other Easter traditions that are pagan in origin. The Easter sunrise service is derived from the ancient pagan practice of welcoming the sun on the morning of the spring equinox, marking the beginning of spring. What we now call Easter lilies were revered by the ancients as symbols of fertility and representative of the male genitalia. The ancient Babylonian religions had rituals involving dyed eggs as did the ancient Egyptians." - Frater Stype

The early christian writers collected many myths popular of their time including spring equinox and resurrection myths, and reworked them to tell a new story. The new myth symbolized Jesus realization of divine nature, and the realization of our own divine nature.

When you extend your awareness past ego centrism to include other beings you rise from spiritual death and are born again as a son or daughter of God. Unfortunately they forgot to tell St. Paul this. St. Paul was not one for irony or subtle philosophy. He was a literalist who never met Jesus, and certainly didn't understand him. St. Paul gave u eXoteric Christianity. Esoteric Christians went into hiding in the egyptian desert. Led be Jesus's brother James, they started the desert fathers tradition and were called the Coptic christians. They chanted the mantra "Maranatha" (very loosely translated as "recieve God").

Belief vs. Faith - Fundamentalism vs. Authenticity - Case #87

Belief is holding on to an idea. Faith is letting go of all ideas and trusting your intuition. When folk lose faith and an intuitive relationship with life, they cling ever more tenaciously to belief. Atheists and religious folk alike. When this attachment prevents a person from trusting their intuition they will more likely embrace fundamentalism or a rigid inflexible belief.

Doubt is the enemy of belief, but not so with faith. Belief must have no perceivable flaws in order to give a person a sense of security and banish any underlying anxiety. Faith operates in a state of doubt, or great Doubt as they call it in zen. A person of faith realizes belief is divorced from reality. To live the life of faith you have to throw away security. Faith walks into an uncertain situation with raw trust, allowing intuition to guide it through a scary or new experience.

Interesting to consider that one can have faith without belief or religion all together.

I am going to do the Buddhist precepts ceremony

I've decided after 11 years of formal zen practice to take the Buddhist refuges or "the precepts". In the tradition I practice we have no ordination, there are no priests, no monks, and no hierarchy. The Diamond sangha has been criticized as being Anarchistic. The criticism is completely accurate, we are anarchistic and that's the way I like it :)

There is a Buddhist Priest in Tucson who has given argument because the diamond sangha has non-ordained Jukai. His argument, "how can you have un-ordained Jukai?, unless it is performed by an ordained priest it's not REAL Jukai."

Does this guy think Jukai is a magical spell that can only be performed by a bald guy in a dress? I am only interested in doing Jukai in front of my close friends and my teacher. I'm not interested in wearing a special robe and showing people how holy I am. It's an intimate ceremony for only a handful of friends.

Fortuna - Case #86

The God most worshiped in America is Fortuna. She's actually a Roman Goddess who's name gave us the English word fortune. The practitioners of the cult of Fortuna believe Fortuna must have smiled down upon the rich, whom she obviously found worthy of her blessings and who deserve their fortune. The theology of Fortuna is that the poor are unfavorable. The inevitable conclusion made by the Fortunates, is that, "maybe they poor don't work hard enough to deserve her blessings".

The Fortunates are the high priests and priestesses of Fortuna and can intercede on behalf of the unfortunates if they are appropriately glamorized and worshiped by their followers fans, and gangsters. Those who are unfortunate can pretend they are fortunate by associating themselves with other glamorized stars and emulating their dress, speech and lifestyle and thereby imitate their Goddess.

The fortunates never consider that a person may have come by their fortune in an underhanded or reptilian manner; exploitation is never considered to have played a part in how one comes by their fortune.

Contemplation, Meditation, Zen etc.

No one learns contemplation through talk, study, lectures or intellectual activity. Contemplation is the fruit of personal practice and experience. The experience is primarily the personal realization of the inseparable Wholeness of the Divine. Contemplation is non-discursive in nature, non-dualistic in nature. Talk, study, lectures and intellectual activity, are dualistic by nature. You can't learn guitar from reading about it, you have to put your fingers on the thing.

You just can't say anything about it - not this, not that. It's a dilemma.

Words cannot say, words fail.

We won't find anything we truly need on the internet. No genuine encounters happen there, and genuine encounters are the only ones that can relieve us of our loneliness and isolation - Willigis Jager

The common ground of religious experience is Silence.

The common ground of religious experience is Silence.

There is a common thread among all religions is Silence. In Silence one can experience more deeply the ground of their being. This experience is the basis of all mysticism; it is experiential in nature. Silence has no tradition.

In Silence we can meet ourselves, it is the place were all mysticism meets.
The central focus of the mystical experience is realizing our unity with all living things.
- Willigis Jager

This meeting ourselves cannot be adequately described with language but we are stuck and mystics have tried to convey this spirit in a variety of ways each according to their various different traditions, cosmologies, assumptions and the limitation of their language. The experiences themselves are the same only the explanation differs.
“Not This Not That.” You can’t say anything more about God. The mystic in all religions are unanimous on this point. - Willigis Jager:

When asked about God St. John of the Cross replied, “Nada, nada”. “Not This Not That.”

“There is a reality that precedes heaven and earth. It has no form let alone a name. Eyes cannot see it when they seek it. It has no voice and cannot be heard by ears… My worthy friends, if you desire to hear the thunderous voice of the Dharma, give up your words, empty your thoughts. Then you may come to the point of realizing the single being.” - Daio Kokushi:

In Devotional religion, one of the barriers in describing mystical experience is a anthropomorphized and often comical (terrifying) depiction of God. One of the first thing a mystic does is dispels the notion of God as something knowable. Once this is done it becomes easy to see similarities between eastern and western mysticism.

For example:

“If I had a God whom I could realize I would never take him to be God”
“God and I are one in the act of my perceiving him” - Meister Eckart

“This light guided me More surely than the light of noonday, To the place where he (well I knew who!) was awaiting me-- A place where none appeared. – Dark Night of the Soul

So we sit in silence with Monks & Nuns, Wild Women, Buddha’s, Madmen and Saints, one being, one sangha, one body.

Silence is bigger then Buddhism or Christianity. In the end those traditions will pass away but silence will go on for eternity.

Insights on Love - Repost 10/20/2004

I’m not sure falling in love is the same as love. Falling in love is a mad rush of feelings. I imagine after 10 years of marriage a couple no longer is “in love”, but have replaced the immature “in love” with real love. This real love is a special kind of friendship that simply allows for sexual intimacy.

I hope I never fall in love again, but I would like someone to love. My ideal situation would be to find a girl I am attracted to, I get along with and that shares a common interest in spirituality or meditation, not necessarily Zen, but, some kind of “practice”. Personally I don’t need that much sex to be happy, (or any) as much as I need intimacy.

This person could be my friend without any obligation to marry me, live with me (although that would be nice), to bear me children, or to be my official girlfriend or novia. It would be a "no strings attached policy." We would be best friends and on occasion we could just make out on the couch. This is more then just friends, but, without all the patriarchal gender politics.

As a severely disabled guy the “more then friends”, friend could help me do things that are more intimate then what seems appropriate for a standard friendship. For instance, I need help bathing, and stretching, to keep my muscles from contracting into rigidity (insurance won’t cover it and the local physical therapist charges $50 per 15 minutes). Having an intimate friend around really would make my life more livable, instead of how stressful living alone can be. I could provide a place to live for the person and enough food money to squeak bye feeding two adults. This person could be a college student whose entire paycheck can go to their schooling or other artistic needs. It could be a mutually beneficial arrangement.

I think sex can neither damn you or save you. In order to be happy people must be completely self reliant.
