When you see God, you are seeing a reflection of yourself.

Have you ever had the experience of being in the presence of divinity? Did you think this divine entity was separate from you? "God and I are one in the act of my perceiving him" says Meister Eckhart. In this experience you are experiencing YOUR non-separation from the whole universe. No matter how many times you break down a hologram the whole image is retained in its fullness, in each segment of the picture. So it is with your self. The small individual ego believes it is the whole separate from reality, But, if reality is what is real and you are separate from it, then, you just explained yourself OUT of existence!

The Gospel writers put into the mouth of Jesus these words, " I AM the truth and the light, no one comes to the father but THROUGH me." The obvious but superficial explanation of this would seem to say, unless you are a Christian you can't go to heaven. This is a non-intuitive, non mystical explanation. A mystical interpretation of this would give very different results. Jesus was a man who realized he was NO DIFERENT then GOD. This realization is open to ANYONE! This realization is realizing that you are the CHRIST. To become the Christ "pick up your cross and follow me" Christ says. That is what is meant by THE WAY.

We conveniently refer to our individual organism as I or "me", but in the final analysis the boundary between you and the entire universe is non-existent.
The implications may not immediately be clear. Each human being answers to NO ONE but themselves! This makes it surprisingly easy to get along with each other, simply treat each other as you would treat any God. You have the freedom to do what you will as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else’s will. Treat everyone like the God they are.

This rubs certain members of our society the wrong way, especially those who try to control you with fear of hell or the promise of an afterlife. Well, my answer to them is: in case you didn't know, treating each person like a god, is what "loving others as you would love yourself" actually MEANS. (Aesop said it first.)

Christianity: A Heathens Faith!
In the ancient world, drinking blood was considered a big taboo. Animal sacrifices spilled the blood of the animal but the blood was not drunk or consumed. Why? Were they anti- vampirism? NO. Blood was considered the life force, created by God. To drink blood meant, EQUALITY with God. Thats something only pagans did. The Cult of Isis*, would transform the wine and bread into the blood and flesh of the goddess. Those who would drink and eat of her flesh would have ecstatic experiences. So, when Jesus asked his followers to drink his blood and eat his flesh, he was not being kinky. He knew full well the significance of such a practice. He was saying that we are EQUAL to God. Unfortunately this interpretation is considered a blasphemy by the non-mystically bent.

Jesus (his roman name) was killed because he challenged the entire system of Emperor worship and racial requirements for spiritual practice. He didn't think you could fix a government if it was corrupt, "you can't patch an old wine skin with new cloth." He was champion of the poor making any left wing democrat seem like a totalitarian dictator. The only people who even approach the mind set of Jesus would be maybe, Martin Luther King jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Malcolm X (is there a white person we could put on this list?). What would happen if his followers actually picked up their crosses and followed him? What would I be like if I did that?

Feanor the tolkien Elf Lord from the undying lands, appeared in my dreams two night ago. He was teaching me about cause and effect and the danger of opposite reactions.

"If you are overly compassionate" he told me, "you'll also be overly passive. If you rebel against any part of yourself OR conspire for any part of yourself there will be a negative consequence in the opposite direction. You can see this in all things in nature and especially in politics. Why else do you think there is always a left and a right, or two extreme views on every issue? Be aware of this, see it everywhere", he warned me.

I interpret this dream as a seeping down of things I've learned from years of dream journaling. What I've learned is this;

All energy is good, all feelings are good and all thoughts are good, all your personas are good, so long as they are in harmony with each other or integrated. This includes, lust, hate, jealousy, desire, passion, ambition, pride, all of the seven deadly sins basically. Wwithout these "negative emotions" i could not function. I need anger to be outraged over injustice, I need pride to motivate me to get out of bed. I need lust to desire to live despite all manner of obstacles put in my way. These things do not overide or cancel out my compassion, Love, tenderness, loyalty, friendship etc. This is how to become a deeper person.

It is interesting that it was the elf Feanor. He had great pride, invented warfare, the sword, armor and of course the Silmarills (from j.r.r. tolkiens Silmarillion). Feanor represents power, strength, pride, passion, discipline and self determination. These are all things that I believe I need to work on.

My new song is about Thamyris. In Greek mythology, Thamyris (Greek: Θάμυρις), son of Philammon and the nymph Argiope, was a Thracian singer who was so proud of his skill that he boasted he could outsing the Muses. He competed against them and lost. As punishment for his presumption they blinded him, and took away his ability to make poetry and to play the lyre. Later sources add the details that Thamyris had claimed as his prize, if he should win the contest, the privilege of having sex with all the Muses (according to one version) or of marrying one of them (according to another); and that after his death he was further punished in Hades. The story demonstrates that poetic inspiration, a gift of the gods, can be taken away by the gods.

According to Diodorus the mythical singer Linus took three pupils, Heracles, Thamyris and Orpheus, which neatly settles Thamyris's legendary chronology. When Pliny the Elder briefly sketches the origins of music he credits Thamyris with inventing the Dorian mode and with being the first to play the cithara as a solo instrument with no voice accompaniment.

I'll admit when it comes to Politics, & Economics I am pretty dumb. The current political landscape frightens my poor dumb brain and

I am tempted to listen to AM talk radio and replace my ignorance and panic with blind hate.

I would gain much comfort if I could blame everything on one person or group of people. It would be nice if I could blame the entire worlds economic crisis on something.

I've decided its all Finland's fault. The communist plot that threatens the American way of life is a scheme hatched by those Godless fishmongers. Finland used to b a decent country, second only to Paraguay (tied with Belgium), until Socialized healthcare was instituted in 1854. Finnish folk have free healthcare and a kick ass dental plan so they have plenty of capital and resources to undermine Americas great economic institutions, by funding labor unions and social "security".*

It's not president Obama's fault. No it's not run away capitalism either. Our economy is just where those Kalavala worshipping lakelanders want it. Take a last look at the American dream and take a whiff, there's white fish in the air.

* Invented by some lost Viking who bumped into Finland when chasing a walrus, refused to kill it until the Walrus paid him a merciful kill fee.

Belief is holding on to an idea. Faith is letting go of all ideas and trusting your intuition. When folk lose faith and an intuitive relationship with life, they cling ever more tenaciously to belief. Atheists and religious folk alike. When this attachment prevents a person from trusting their intuition they will more likely embrace fundamentalism or a rigid inflexible belief.

Doubt is the enemy of belief, but not so with faith. Belief must have no perceivable flaws in order to give a person a sense of security and banish any underlying anxiety. Faith operates in a state of doubt, or great Doubt as they call it in zen. A person of faith realizes belief is divorced from reality. To live the life of faith you have to throw away security. Faith walks into an uncertain situation with raw trust, allowing intuition to guide it through a scary or new experience.

A red shawled Buddhist type person came up to me and said,

"in a past life i asked a man in crutches what sin from your past life put you in those crutches?"

I am an "amateur" musician who only listens, primarily to other "amateur" musicians.

High quality recordings can be made on the simplest computer. I hope the ease of online music sharing makes the concept of rock-star* completely obsolete. Music is for everyone, both for its listening enjoyment and performance. I would rather hear bad experimental music then anything Metallica has to offer.

In Traditional Judaism forbids the drinking of blood. Because Blood is the substance that gives life. To drink blood meant to be equal to God.

Members of the Greek mystery and elusian mystery cults drank blood to become one with the Goddess. Such a practice was abhorrent to Jewish law.

Early Christians drank the Blood of Christ, claiming sameness and indivisibility with God, becoming sons and daughters of God, identical to Christ.

Remember Christs separate divinity (were all divine of origin) was not the predominate interpretation of Christianity until the 4th century.

Most people are unaware that essential Christianity is not fundamentalist, in fact it's very non-dualistic. In order to extract the deeper mystical significance of the Jesus myth is to restore it AS a myth. The Christianity that we inherited from st. Paul is Exoteric Christianity and it is an interpretation based on dualistic Aristotelian philosophy. Before Paul was esoteric Christianity.

Esoteric Christianity in a nutshell is this. Salvation is NOT bridging the gap between earthly humans and spiritual God with a blood sacrifice or Exoteric Christianity. Esoteric Christianity is realizing your own divine nature. Realizing this IS salvation, not achieving your place in the afterlife.

Jesus realized he was no separate from divine nature, Christian practice is to make the same realization Jesus made, that WE are God nature. There is no separation between matter and spirit.

The coming and going of the ego each moment is "reincarnation". To escape birth-death, accept what your life is right now. Even the coming and going of the ego is the proper function of the universe.

To enter the kingdom of heaven, crucify your false self and rise from the dead, and be born again as a son or daughter of God.

All traditions make the mistake of taking religious metaphors literally. Spiritual language is designed to reach through logic straight to the intuition. If you take words to literally you end up with Christians believing in a literal heaven and the Buddhists a literal re-birth.

The mask we have constructed does not live on after death. let it go, let it die each moment, don't block out the reality of your life as it is right now. Thats heaven, that's nirvana.

Religion vs Atheism

Religious hypocrisy is not caused by religion. Religion does not MAKE you evil or violent. The reason religion is so destructive is because it is run by humans. Atheism in the guise of communist China killing Buddhists is no Different then Christians burning witches. The reason religious people cause so much violence is because they are human.

Humans are born ignorant, we need not blame anything else for our folly as a species.

Wisdom is the narrow road, and it doesn't come easy to us quasi-apes. It requires constant vigilance and hard work. It's harder then getting a masters degree or learning to play the guitar, or raising a family.

Human ignorance is exemplified by individuals with an unwavering single minded ideology. The ideology may or may not include a deity, or it may just be a philosophy. Ignorant people call this ideology "Faith" or "Truth", but it is neither.

Faith is a-religious and existed before any religion. Faith happens when we walk into the unknown with courage and profound acceptance of reality. If religion helps you to do that, help yourself to several. If rejecting religion helps, by all means reject away.

The sooner we un-encumber ourselves from the "truth" the sooner we can face the unknown with faith.

There are other Easter traditions that are pagan in origin. The Easter sunrise service is derived from the ancient pagan practice of welcoming the sun on the morning of the spring equinox, marking the beginning of spring. What we now call Easter lilies were revered by the ancients as symbols of fertility and representative of the male genitalia. The early christian writers collected many myths popular of their time including spring equinox and resurrection myths, and reworked them to tell a new story. The new myth symbolized Jesus realization of divine nature, and the realization of our own divine nature.

When you extend your awareness past ego centrism to include other beings you rise from spiritual death and are born again as a son or daughter of God. Unfortunately they forgot to tell St. Paul this. St. Paul was not one for irony or subtle philosophy. He was a literalist who never met Jesus, and certainly didn't understand him. St. Paul gave u eXoteric Christianity. Esoteric Christians went into hiding in the egyptian desert. Led be Jesus's brother James, they started the desert fathers tradition and were called the Coptic christians. They chanted the mantra "Maranatha" (very loosely translated as "recieve God").

Hierarchical religion is dead!, anyone who thinks the have special authority because they are "ordained" are no better then those "other" faiths.

I've decided after 11 years of formal zen practice to take the Buddhist refuges or "the precepts". In the tradition I practice we have no ordination, there are no priests, no monks, and no hierarchy. The Diamond sangha has been criticized as being Anarchistic. The criticism is completely accurate, we are anarchistic and that's the way I like it :)

There is a Buddhist Priest in Tucson who has given argument because the diamond sangha has non-ordained Jukai. His argument, "how can you have un-ordained Jukai?, unless it is performed by an ordained priest it's not REAL Jukai."

Does this guy think Jukai is a magical spell that can only be performed by a bald guy in a dress? I am only interested in doing Jukai in front of my close friends and my teacher. I'm not interested in wearing a special robe and showing people how holy I am. It's an intimate ceremony for only a handful of friends.
